A Preview of the Ken Burns documentary Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies will take place during a special screening at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (located at 1 Illini Dr. in Peoria) tonight (Thursday) with doors opening at 5:45 pm. The six-hour documentary will air in three segments on WTVP on March 30th, 31st and April 1st. Dr. Bento Soares will talk briefly before the showing about some of the cancer research taking place at the College of Medicine and his vision for cancer research in Peoria. The Peoria Jaycees will host Peoria's Largest Easter Egg Hunt at Detweiller Park near the Dogwood Pavilion with festivities on Sunday beginning at 1:30 pm and the hunt beginning at 2 pm. The event is open to families and children ages through 9. There will be 15,000 eggs stuffed with candy by the Easter Bunny and the Girl Scouts spread through 4 areas at the park with each areas corresponding to a specific age group: 0-2, 3-4, 5-7, 8-9. A Gallery Walk with Preston Jackson will take place at the Peoria Riverfront Museum on Sunday in the International Feature Gallery beginning at 2 pm. Peoria native Joel Ommen has been collecting works by Jackson, a local artist with a national reputation, for decades and has loaned some of his favorite pieces to the Museum for the "Stuff! The Art of Collecting'" exhibition. The artist will share his personal motivations for and perspectives on his work, focusing on the pieces from Ommen's collection.
